Dublin City Dublin Ireland is one of Europe's oldest cities. As well as retaining its historical and cultural charms, Dublin offers trendy bars, elegant restaurants and stylish, cosmopolitan shops and hotels. There's never been a better time to visit Dublin, a city that is rivaling Europe's elite for hip appeal. Dublin is a modern, cosmopolitan city – something that is reflected in vast array of restaurants on offer. Wherever you eat, portions will be generous, especially in pubs. With its coastal location, it's not surprising to find so much seafood on offer in Dublin, in particular smoked salmon and oysters are a favourite and are usually consumed with a Guinness!

Cork, situated on the south coast of Ireland, is the country's second city after Dublin and the largest city in the province of Munster. Most of the city center is located on an island in the River Lee, so there are many bridges from there to the other parts of the city. The name Cork is derived from an Irish word meaning 'marshy place', referring to its location on the Lee. The river flows from the city south to Cork Harbour, one of the largest natural harbors in the world.

Don your most comfortable shoes for Killarney, where town trails offer history lessons and country walks traverse Ireland's first national park, 26,000 acres of woodlands, sandstone mountains and low-lying lakes. In the town center, Killarney House and Gardens provides a break for urban explorers. Renowned Muckross House, with its 15th-century abbey ruins and massive yew tree, is just outside of town.

Galway's streets are steeped in history, yet have a contemporary vibe. Students make up a quarter of the city's population, while the remains of the medieval town walls lie between shops selling Aran sweaters, handcrafted Claddagh rings, and stacks of secondhand and new books. Bridges arc over the salmon-filled River Corrib, and a long promenade leads to the seaside suburb of Salthill, where at night the moon's glow illuminates Galway Bay, where the area's famous oysters are produced. Galway is often referred to as the most 'Irish' of Ireland's cities (and it's the only one where you're likely to hear Irish spoken in the streets, shops and pubs), but some locals lament that these may be the last days of 'old' Galway before it absorbs the effects of the country's globalised economy. But for now at least, Galway remains true to its spirited roots.
